Kate Cremin spent nine years working in Hong Kong before returning to the UK to take a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualification.
Having initially gone backpacking I looked into marketing because I enjoyed the market research skills I had picked up while studying geography at university.
I found a position in a young law firm where I set up the marketing department from scratch. I knew that I would be moving internationally and decided to take a CIM qualification to help me do that.
Coming from a legal firm where qualifications are held in high esteem by my colleagues, the CIM certificate gave me clear professional gravitas. More importantly, the CIM is an internationally recognised standard, and was particularly useful when relocating to the UK in showing potential employers that my skills and experience met a certain benchmark.
I work on all kinds of communications and campaigns from webinars to corporate events and traditional campaigns. I am now studying again, to work towards celebrating chartered status and have really benefited from sharing ideas with my fellow students.
