Hazel Clyne studied BSc (Hons) Geophysics and MSc Carbon Capture and Storage before joining CO2DeepStore, part of the Petrofac group.
Petrofac had just acquired CO2DeepStore when I was applying for a job, so I now get to work for Petrofac as an added bonus.
During the graduate programme I have received an enormous amount of support from my team, from mentoring to pushing my personal development, to advice on presentations. Throughout Petrofac there are people who I know through the graduate programme that I could approach. Help is never far away.
My current project is The Aspen project. Petrofac is a 50/50 joint-venture partner with Shell for the offshore transport and storage of CO2 which will be captured from Longannet power station in Fife. The project will obtain government funding and be the first commercial CCS project in the world.
I’ve learned loads since I started in October 2010. From the challenges of well and reservoir engineering with CO2, to an understanding of the regulatory process required to obtain a CO2 storage licence and lease.
There are additional training opportunities through the Future.net programme which incorporates a broad range of training and self-development from presentation skills to teamwork and dealing with conflict.
There seems to be loads going on at Petrofac through Sports and Social and I’m keen to get involved. Outside of work I am friends with a good few of the graduates and we go out for weekend pints, have dinner parties and watch the rugby.
When it comes to the perks the holiday allowance is brilliant, especially with the flexibility of bank holidays (you don’t have to take them on the day). The additional flexi-day every month is perfect to get up snowboarding mid-week or get a three-day weekend in. Private health care is excellent and the pension scheme is great (though too far off to fully consider it as a perk).
Petrofac is a forward-thinking, progressive and innovative company and you really get a sense of that working here. The broad skill capabilities of the employees and the values that Petrofac stands for enable the company to continue to push boundaries and grow.
