Hannah earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Sussex. She pursued an MSc in Occupational Psychology from Goldsmiths College. She now works as an implementation consultant.
I realised the importance of networking in finding appropriate work before I started my Masters course. Consequently, during the programme, I sought out all opportunities to network with psychologists and to arrange work shadowing. I took the time to attend the annual conference and also spent a month as an unpaid intern in a small consultancy company. My ultimate aim is to become a consultant who has a sufficient breadth of knowledge and skills to operate across a range of key areas in the human resources cycle. I see my current role as an implementation consultant as a way to learn about specifics within the recruitment process and strategy.
Whilst a psychology degree isn’t a specific requirement for this role, I believe it has been extremely relevant. I use my MSc a lot within my everyday job. More so, it has enhanced my ability to think about organisational issues, which is a key aspect of my job and most jobs within the field of occupational psychology. Working in the human resources sector and completing the qualifications I have, has made me realise that networking is vital for success. I would advise psychology students to get out there. Get shadowing. Get some work experience. Show you are keen and willing to learn. And network, network, network!!!
