Case studies: Regulatory affairs assistant: Yetunde

Yetunde is a regulatory affairs assistant who did a degree in pharmaceutical science. This is her first permanent role after a short internship in a medium-sized pharmaceuticals company.

The key skills I got throughout my degree were time management, the ability to work on my own and as part of a team and interpreting data e.g. graphs. I feel that my degree was very relevant as the company needed someone with a scientific background in chemistry or pharmaceuticals.

I was looking for a challenging career and didn't want a job where two days were the same; I feel that the regulatory environment is always changing and that's what keeps it interesting. I applied for the job through a specialist recruitment agency and had to go through two interviews before getting the job.

Over the past few months I have developed my skills in the use of Electronic Data Management Systems (EDMS) and gained and insight into electronic common technical documents (eCTD) submissions where my time management has been a very important skill.

On a day-to-day basis, I liaise with agencies like Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Irish Medicines Board (IMB), look after licences, writing documents, and help to put together eCTD submissions.

It is a challenging role but I enjoy having to work with different people and touching the lives of the people that need the medicines we make.

In the future I would like to progress up to head of regulatory affairs within a company I know well at sometime in the future. I enjoy my job because it as fun all the way except some busy times but nothing I have not been able to handle.
