How do I get into the chatroom?You can only enter a chatroom when it is 'active'. Look on the schedule to see when a chat is taking place. Chats are either 'not yet active' so you cannot get into them, 'awaiting administrators' which means that the chat is about to start, or 'active'. When a chat is active, you can click on the link and a new browser window will open (see below), displaying the chatroom. To use the chatroom you must be registered with My Prospects.
How do ask a question?To ask a question, you need to be in the chatroom screen (above). Type your message in the message box and click 'submit'. What happens to my question after it has been submitted?Your question is then forwarded to the administrator for checking before being forwarded on to the expert. Please read our rules of use to make sure that your message is suitable for the chatroom. When you submit a question it enters a queue of questions. You can check the progress of your message at the top of the page. The writing in bold gives you the position of your message with the moderator, not the expert. Underneath, your nickname appears in green, the status of your question is queued with the expert, then there is the message you have sent.  What does clicking 'check for new messages' do?'Check for new messages' does exactly that, it refreshes your page and picks up any new messages from the administrator or the expert. The page will refresh itself automatically ever 15-30 seconds as well. The first message will appear at the top of the page and subsequent messages will appear underneath. When you screen is full, it will scroll upwards. You will always be able to see all of the previous messages by scrolling your screen. 
How do I know when my question has been answered?When your question has been answered by the expert it will appear in the top half of the screen with the answer underneath it. If you ask our chatroom expert a question that they do not know the answer to, we will let you know . Also, the expert will endeavour to find out the answer to your question and their response may then be included in the transcript of the chat session, which will be housed in the archived chat. Why does my screen re-load all the time?Your screen is set to refresh after a few seconds so it can check for new messages. You can do this yourself by clicking on the link, but the screen will do it automatically as well. Why hasn't my question been answered?There are a number of reasons why your question has not been answered: 1. It is still in the queue, waiting for the expert to get to it. 2. It is not suitable and has not been forwarded by the moderator. The moderator will inform you if this is the case. If your message is offensive or inappropriate in any way, the moderator has the right to ban you from the chatroom. 3. Someone else has already asked the same or a very similar question. The moderator will try to let you know if this is the case and refer you to the question on your screen. 4. The chatroom has ended before your question was answered. This should not happen but it depends on how quickly the expert answers the questions during the session. Why aren't you accepting new messages?
If it is getting towards the end of the chatroom and we have got a number of messages for the expert to answer, we won't accept any more. This stops you sending messages and not getting an answer. Sometimes we may then allow messages to be submitted again so keep trying - your question will remain in the message box until it has been submitted so that you do not need to re-type it. How do I leave the chatroom?To leave the chatroom, click the 'logout' button. |
