Rachel Killington's personal and domestic life has recently been troubled, but there's still website and radio work to be done. All my own work To be honest not an awful lot has happened work wise this week. Im still doing my freelance online editing, and if anything I love my job even more than I did before. Im learning new things everyday, and also teaching myself - Ive always had a hunger for knowledge, a desire to learn new things, and Ill snatch at any opportunity to better myself. Actually, thinking about it, I have achieved quite a lot this week
I made my first photowall completely unaided, and constructed a sectional from scratch. Without boring you with techie geek jargon, a photowall is basically a picture gallery, and a sectional is a webpage that has a number of other pages attached to it (think of a classroom-esque spider diagram and youll catch my drift
). My colleague Sara found it amusing that I was excited about my achievements as I guess theyre things she does everyday, but Im immensely proud of the work Ive done. Although its only ever temporary (each sites content changes almost every day) its like my little stamp upon the world - people all over the country are reading articles Ive written, and thats a great feeling. Festival timeAside from work, Ive had another first experience - I roughed it at a music festival for the weekend! I was fortunate enough to receive two weekend camping tickets to the Latitude Festival at Henham Park in Suffolk, as payment for helping out on some of the late night shows at work. To be fair, I cant say that I really had a proper hands on festival experience, for a number of reasons. I thought the tickets would be day passes and had agreed to work both Friday and Saturday night, so overnight camping was out of the question - I must admit, I wasnt too heartbroken about that, particularly as Ive yet to see a tent that has central heating or a plug for my hair straightners. I didnt get drunk, didnt wear wellies (although I did buy a lovely pink pair just in case), and it only rained once. I did indulge in hideously overpriced food, pints of beer from plastic cups, and was forced to visit ladies rooms that Kim and Aggie wouldnt have touched with a bargepole. And they were the nice ones in the guest area! It was an amazing few days. I met up with old friends, enjoyed endless sunshine, and watched fantastic bands and comedians. The whole festival had an eco-friendly vibe, and everything was chilled out and laid back (apart from we were almost crushed in the comedy tent by the crowd surging forward when the fabulous Dylan Moran came on stage!) It almost made me think about Glastonbury next year
for all of five seconds! Back to realitySo this week has been business as usual. I thought Id be suffering from post festival blues but I was almost glad to be back to civilisation, and back in front of my computer. I had a fantastic weekend, and it was a great distraction from my home stresses (I still am no further forward on the accommodation front). I enjoyed a couple of days off, just wandering where I wanted, drinking in the amazing sights, sounds and ambience. I was able to relax and enjoy not doing an awful lot, but like everything in life, all things must come to an end. Outdoor music festivals are fantastic, but theres nowhere to plug in your hairdryer or iPod docking station, I had Facebook withdrawal symptoms, and I was dying to get home to put my feet up with a cuppa by the end! I had a great time, but was almost pleased to come home
