Job description
We are looking for 2 people to join our Graduate Recruitment programme as Account Executives in September 2010. The challenges of account management are many, but broadly speaking, the main attributes you will need are good organisational skills, a sharp mind, tactfulness, an ability to solve problems quickly and an ability to think laterally. Proficiency with a kettle wouldn't go amiss either. Needless to say, it's fundamentally important that you are turned on by ads in all their forms, contemporary culture, and finding out what makes people tick.
Company information
rkcr/y&r is an advertising agency. We're one of the best in the country, and we make all sorts of ads and other communications for a host of well-known brands and companies, all of whom you will probably recognise.

Put simply, we invent and produce advertising (in any medium, whether it's on TV, on posters, in the press, on the radio, online, or anywhere else) for a list of clients both large and small. In the process, we spend a lot of time listening to and talking to our clients, to understand exactly what business situation they're in, the various dynamics that affect them, and what sort of strategy we should follow. Not everyone does the same job, though. It can be a complex exercise, so different people specialise in different aspects of it. The main areas of expertise are Creative (they're the ones who actually come up with the ideas); Planning (they devise most of the strategy, in order to give Creative something to work to); Production (who, as their name implies, actually produce the creative work); and Account Management, who co-ordinate everything, spend the most time working with clients, and essentially decide how the agency delivers the right results and how it works with its clients.

The agency is a division of Y&R, an international network of agencies founded in 1923, and we're owned by WPP, one of the biggest communications companies in the world.

This is brilliant, because it means that we can combine our reputation for great creative work here in the UK with the stability and reach of an international company. It's part of the reason why we've been able to win lots of creative awards and a load of awards for advertising effectiveness.
Skills and qualities
Working in an advertising agency gives you a vast amount of insight into an array of different sorts of business, so you soon have a breadth of experience to draw on.

You're exposed to the big issues that your clients face, which involves a lot of trust, and you're using the process of creative thinking to try to solve their business and marketing problems.

We're not looking for a particular type of character, though. One of the best things about rkcr/y&r is the diversity of people who work here, so we like to keep an open mind about who we recruit next.
