Our research feeds directly into our MSc and PhD programmes, ensuring that content remains as up-to-date as possible. Employability is at the heart of our programmes and courses are regularly reviewed to reflect the changes in the economy and the world of education. This has led us to introduce a new Master's course for 2012 - MSc in Advanced Computing - with a strong emphasis on technical skills, small group project work and the opportunity to work closely with a one of our research centres.

We also work closely with our Industry Advisory Board, a group of employers drawn from a wide range of private and public industries who advise us on the relevance and impact of our research and teaching, as well as on employability strategies.

Selected students on our Computing courses have the opportunity to carry out dissertation projects with industry. These students gain valuable industrial experience that is highly valued by employers of IT specialists.

Across these two departments we offer a wide range of courses:

Student profile

Brunel University provided me with the flexible learning environment I required to step back from operational IT consultancy and take a broader view of relevant subjects from the IT world. Research-based Masters degrees offer a structure and guidelines, but students are required to develop their understanding of a subject and find their own focus to demonstrate a deep understanding of a topic. I took a year out to learn and found myself challenged more than ever before to look beyond proprietary products to the concepts and possibilities behind the technologies.

I have the opportunity to undertake my thesis research with SAP Research. I have a central role, in a joint project with Intel, integrating state of the art technology with cloud computing. The ability to move deeper into a topic and apply academic research principles to real world problems is my objective.

Information Technology is not static and continual development is required to make sure you remain relevant to today's business. This Master's degree is making sure that I can stay ahead of the game.
