City University London has one of the highest proportions of international and graduate students of any university in the UK. We successfully combine academic and professional studies, with many of our students gaining a professional as well as an academic award.

City is ranked tenth in the UK for graduate prospects according to The Times Good University Guide 2011. The Guardian University Guide 2011 also ranks City as the 5th best university in London, ahead of Kings College, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway, Goldsmiths, Westminster, Brunel, Thames Valley, Middlesex, London South Bank, UEL and London Met.

The Schools of Arts and Social Sciences make up two of the seven Schools within the university. We offer our students an inspiring and supportive educational environment with an exciting range of postgraduate programmes in: Economics, International Politics, Sociology, Psychology, Journalism, Creative Writing, Publishing, Translation, and Cultural Policy and Management.

Students in the Schools of Arts and Social Sciences have come from over 130 different countries in the last three years - from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

City University London is undeniably an international University with over 40 per cent of students coming from outside the UK. We have dedicated advisors available to assist students with advice, support and guidance on everything from setting up a bank account to UK immigration regulations.

There is a special welcome event for international students at the beginning of term, as well as induction and orientation sessions. The Students' Union organise a number of social activities throughout the year so there is no shortage of fun things to do and ways to meet people and make friends from all over the world.

Top-rated research

City hosts a number of pioneering research projects that influence both national and international policy. Students benefit from teaching that is informed by the latest research findings. The School of Social Sciences hosts the multi-national European Social Survey (ESS) funded by the European Commission - a survey of changing social attitudes and values across Europe. The Department of Journalism has a growing research portfolio and now forms part of the new Centre for Law, Justice and Journalism. Their research aims to be of practical use to the news media.

Students have access to outstanding facilities, from the £22m purpose-built and contemporary social sciences building through to the £12m investment in the School of Arts, creating a stimulating and unique environment for all our students to experience first-rate education. This impressive range of facilities includes a multimedia newsroom suite for journalism; experiential psychology laboratories; high performance computing suites and; communal learning and social spaces.

The world-renowned Department of Journalism - offers some of the most sought-after courses in the world, an unrivalled employment rate, a 4,000-strong alumni network, and superb state-of-the-art facilities

The new Department of Cultural Practice and Enterprise - offers a suite of industry-focused courses for graduates looking to follow a career in the creative and cultural industries, including arts management, creative writing, publishing, and translation.
