The Department of Biological and Medical Sciences offers a research-led, dynamic and supportive environment in which to study, along with the unique benefits of the city of Oxford, a centre for scientific research and learning.

We have a long-standing reputation for teaching built upon research and expert staff across a wide range of areas, including plant and animal biology, biomedical science, cell and molecular biology, conservation and the environment.

Our range of flexible undergraduate and postgraduate courses alongside a growing number of research opportunities are practically focused and designed to equip you with the necessary scientific and transferable skills required to work in today's knowledge-driven global economy.

We work with biological, medical and environmental science-related organisations in Oxford, the UK and across the world, and regularly seek to link our academic development with application and industry. Graduates benefit from our strong links with local and national organisations such as the Oxfordshire Bioscience Network, NERC's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and Oxford's Radcliffe NHS Hospitals Trust.

You'll have access to excellent facilities including a range of well equipped laboratories, advanced bioimaging suite and an extensive collection on online learning resources.

The Department is proud of the student support it provides. This includes academic and pastoral guidance from a team of support staff, a career development programme and financial support through scholarships and bursaries.
