LocationOxford is the ideal city in which to study and live; rich in culture and entertainment and yet small enough to feel welcoming and accessible. The city's two universities attract 40,000 students from around the world, making Oxford a meeting place of minds, a place where ideas begin.Home to a host of museums and galleries, including the world famous Ashmolean and Modern Art Oxford, it also has three theatres and several mainstream and art-house cinemas. Music flourishes in the city and the annual Oxford Literary Festival is a highlight for bibliophiles, as are the many bookshops. Oxford has more published writers per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Postgraduate students may also take advantage of the Bodleian Library, one of the world's leading research libraries, while those studying publishing benefit from strong links between Brookes and Oxford publishers. The School of Arts and Humanities has a flourishing postgraduate community of over 250 master's and PhD students based at the Headington Campus and an excellent progression rate with 50% of our PhD students having MAs from Oxford Brookes. FacilitiesThe School of Arts and Humanities houses many specialist facilities. There are dedicated studio spaces for MA arts students which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as access to special technical areas in photography (a photographic studio with studio flash), digital video and audio, printmaking, bookworks and 3D – each with its own technical specialist on hand. For film studies students, the editing suite features Final Draft and Movie Magic EP scheduling, while the Music Department houses practice rooms, two digital music studios, a music technology room and a drum room. The School is home to many centres of excellence including: The Centre for Health, Medicine and Society: The Centre for the History of Welfare The Social Sculpture Research Unit Funding for postgraduate StudentsThe School has an excellent track record for funding opportunities including: Through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Applications must be submitted via the University. Full-time and part-time students are eligible and there is no upper age limit. www.wellcome.ac.uk provides funding for postgraduate students in the history of medicine through their Master's Awards and Doctoral Studentship programmes. All enquiries about these awards should be made directly to the Centre for Health, Medicine and Society at Oxford Brookes and not to the Wellcome Trust.
