Law at Manchester
The School of Law has a long-standing reputation as one of the UK's most distinguished centres of legal teaching and research in the UK. We have over 200 postgraduate students studying in the School, and 60 full-time members of staff with a broad range of research interests and expertise. The School received a top 5A rating in the 1996 and 2001 Research Assessment Exercises, and in RAE 2008 was placed 6th for research power amongst UK law schools. Research students attend research training sessions appropriate for their research area, provided by the School and the Faculty of Humanities. All research students are encouraged to attend the Law School Research Workshops/Seminars. They may be asked to present work-in-progress sessions on their own research. Supervision of research students includes regular personal sessions with a supervisor and an annual review meeting at which research students present details of progress to a panel of senior academic staff.FundingFunding your studies will be a crucial factor in your decision to apply for a postgraduate degree, so the earlier you consider your funding options, the better. Some postgraduate research students are able to supplement their funds whilst studying by teaching undergraduate seminar classes as Teaching Assistants.
