Our research is of international standard

We're proud to be a university which puts teaching first, but that doesn't mean we're standing still on research, especially in Education, Health and Sciences.

  • Our biological sciences research has been classed as of international significance in a recent government assessment.
  • Our research is being built to match our undergraduate and postgraduate courses so that everything we learn we pass down to you. We think this is really important.
  • We've got a designated Research Leader in each of our schools to take research development forward across the faculty.

A little bit about our research groups

Biological Sciences Research Group

The Biological Sciences Research Group has produced research which has been graded as of international significance in recent government assessments. Because of the calibre of our scientists and research students, the areas of interest in this group are varying. They include evolutionary ecology, molecular biology, human/health biology, conservation biology and plants and the environment.

The Centre for Psychological Research

This group has a range of specialisms from parapsychology, health psychology, cognitive psychology and more. One particular area of interest is developing educational applications of Second Life and other interactive virtual worlds. These projects are developing problem based learning in virtual environments, and using virtual learning environments to promote the 'education for sustainable development' agenda, so they have real application today.

The Second Life is also being used to research unconscious attitudes to green issues.
