Research

Our research motivation drives what we teach to our students and directly helps organisations to solve real world issues. Our work often contributes directly, not only to the development and wellbeing of the region, but also to the body of knowledge in the scientific community at large:

  • Dr Andreas Oikonomou, whose research in computer games intervention with mucus clearing devices for Cystic Fibrosis is working to design, create and evaluate a suitable game control interface that is based on a popular sputum clearance device.
  • Justin Rogowski has developed software to analyse the dorsal fins of bottlenose dolphins and, working with Shannon Dolphin and Wildlife Foundation in Ireland, has mapped unique identifiers for each individual dolphin.
  • Professor Nik Bessis' research examines resource discovery in interco-operative grid communities. His work with his partners from Switzerland had attracted particular interest from the research community and has received best paper awards.
