Postgraduate Taught Courses

The School of Computer Science offers an exciting portfolio of one-year full-time or 2-4 year part-time taught postgraduate Masters courses (some of which are offered jointly with other schools) to provide appropriate courses for students with a wide range of backgrounds and career aspirations.

  • MSc in Advanced Computing Science (G403) is a preparation for leading roles in advanced applications of computing science, in particular in areas of research and development. Graduates will acquire advanced programming skills backed up by an in-depth knowledge of the mathematical foundations of computing. This will enable them to take responsibility for the design and development of software to the highest requirements of reliability and efficiency.
  • MSc in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship (G402) is principally aimed at students from a computer science or related background.  It will allow students to enhance their professional practice in such areas as software engineering as well as providing in-depth study in areas related to the commercialisation of computing and IT. The course gives students the skills needed to create new business opportunities in computing.
  • MSc in Digital Economy (G592) will provide you with a solid grounding in ubiquitous computing technologies and an understanding of the human and business innovation aspects of the Digital Economy. This will prepare you for a career in an industrial, commercial or research environment.
  • MSc in Information Technology (G507) is a well established course that provides an in-depth technical overview of IT, and offers training to prepare graduates for a wide range of careers as technologists in the IT and telecommunications sector.  This course is intended for scientists and engineers who do not generally have a background in Computer Science or IT.
  • MSc in the Management of Information Technology (G565) is focused upon the applications of IT in business and industry.  This course provides an understanding, at a working level, of the technical, organisational and economic issues involved in the management of IT resources and is focused upon preparing graduates for careers in IT management.  This course is available to students with a good first degree in any subject - some of whom have a background in Computer Science or IT, although this is not essential.
  • MSc Interactive Systems Design website.
  • MSc in Scientific Computation (G900)  offers a choice of six different courses to suit a wide variety of backgrounds.  Each course will offer a solid grounding in scientific computation which will prepare students for either a career in industry or research, in an area where computational techniques play a significant role. The course is managed by the School of Mathematical Sciences.
