PhotoUniversity of Southampton Law School graduates can be found in senior positions in many countries around the world. We prepare our students through a combination of excellent research-led academic teaching and unrivalled legal and employability skills personal development support. This starts in the first year with team building and mooting programmes. Our students are consistent National and International Mooting Competition finalists. Our students also help to run advice clinics and take on pro bono work such as Streetlaw, BarLink and the Innocence Project. A wide variety of work placements, shadowing opportunities and volunteering provide a real insight into today's challenging legal world. No wonder top global firms consistently employ our graduates.

Many of our full-time lecturers are active researchers. Many are leading authors and experts in their respective subjects, the fruits of their knowledge informing their teaching. We work with a wide variety of groups including the legal profession, policy makers in government and the EU and other research bodies and organisations around the world.

The University of Southampton has an internationally respected reputation and is ranked 19th in The Times Good University Guide 2012. We are part of the Russell Group, an association of 20 major research universities that also includes Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh. The latest assessment of university research (RAE 2008) ranked 95 per cent of research in Law of international quality.

Facilities

Our campus is a great place to study. The University's continued investment in research and teaching facilities has totalled £200m over four years. The Hartley Library is one of the leading research libraries in the UK and it houses both the Law Collection and the Ford Collection of Parliamentary Papers. Comprehensive online legal resources (including Westlaw, LexisNexis Professional and Justis) provide access to extensive holdings of international and domestic journals and law reports.
