The Training Contract

We offer a truly flexible training contract and the most interesting work in a unique culture of support and mutual respect.

You will have a tailored training contract, designed to give you the best start to your career. The seat structure ensures that you get to see as many parts of the practice as possible and that your learning is hands on, guided closely by an experienced associate or partner. Most seats are for six months, with some three-month seats available.

Our core areas of expertise are Banking, Corporate and International Capital Markets and as a trainee you will spend a minimum of twelve months during your training contract gaining experience in at least two of these areas. The firm also offers its trainees the option of completing a Litigation course so trainees do not need to spend time in the firm’s Dispute Resolution or Employment departments to gain their contentious experience if they are sure their interests lie elsewhere. The course is run by Nottingham Law School and consists of five days tuition and monthly visit to a legal advice centre for a year to gain practical contentious experience.

In addition to the Professional Skills Course there are numerous training courses available to trainees, covering a broad range of legal and personal skills. With this in mind, trainees have said that they find the training the most valuable aspect of being at Allen & Overy.

Who we are looking for

We expect to see a strong, consistent academic performance with at least a 2.1 (or equivalent) predicted or achieved.

The working environment

The Trainees' Social Committee is responsible for planning a variety of events, from intake drinks and theatre trips, to the annual Trainee summer ball. There are also sports teams, a fully-equipped fitness centre, music rooms and multi-faith prayer rooms.

Salary

First year: £38,000
Second year: £43,200
Newly qualified: £61,000.

Vacation schemes

There are 60 Vacation Placements each year.

Winter: Monday 12th December to Wednesday 21st December 2011 (apply by 31 October 2011).
Summer: Monday 18th June to Friday 6th July 2012; Monday 9th July to Friday 27th July 2012; Monday 30th July to Friday 17th August 2012 (apply by 15 January 2012).

Salary £250 per week.
