Company profile

Imperial Tobacco is a FTSE 25 company, the UK’s largest FMCG business, and one of the most successful tobacco companies anywhere in the world. Its brands and products can be found in over 160 countries and it employs 37,000 people around the globe.

Global organisation with a family feel
Although Imperial Tobacco is now a hugely successful global organisation, it still retains the ethos of a family business, which is how it began life more than 200 years ago. That ethos is most evident in the friendly working atmosphere and the way in which all employees are looked after and valued.

International careers
Other key attractions of the programme include being able to work with some of the world’s best-known brands and having the opportunity to build a truly international career.

Who should apply?
The programme is open to people who want to become functional specialists, as well as those who would like a broad commercial career. Candidates need to be talented and ambitious, with evidence of all-round achievement, not just academic results. There are also a number of minimum requirements:

  • At least a 2:1 undergraduate degree or equivalent (awarded or predicted)
  • Fluency in English
  • An international mindset and a willingness to relocate

Strong platform for future growth
As a business, Imperial Tobacco enjoys excellent opportunities for growth. This is due in part to the company’s total tobacco approach, which involves having strong representation in all the major tobacco categories and a versatile portfolio that can change to meet consumer demand. It is also due to the company’s broad geographical footprint, which offers development opportunities in Europe, Australasia, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Graduate opportunities
Graduates have the chance to play a key part in this future growth, as the Imperial Tobacco programme is especially designed to help them become senior leaders of the business. Initially, this will involve undertaking a series of rotational placements, while enjoying a variety of formal and informal learning. There will also be opportunities to study towards professional qualifications.
