The Actuarial Profession is an exceptional profession, and it requires exceptional people. Actuaries have a rare ability to be lots of different things all at the same time – problem solver, analyst, consultant and financial risk assessor.
The Actuarial Profession is one of the most challenging in the world; and one of the most rewarding. The work you do as an actuary will stretch your skills to the full.
So what does being an actuary really involve? Simply put, actuaries use their mathematical expertise, statistical knowledge and problem-solving skills to help financial institutions, businesses and governments evaluate the long-term financial implications of their decisions. Traditionally, actuaries have worked in the insurance and pensions industries but increasingly, they’re playing a valuable role in areas such as healthcare, banking, business management and risk assessment. Because so many organisations rely on the specialist skills of actuaries, they are very well rewarded.
