If you do not have an undergraduate law degree you need to do the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and then the Legal Practice Course (LPC) for would-be solicitors and the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) for budding barristers.
Sometimes called the Common Professional Examination (CPE), the GDL covers the seven modules of an undergraduate degree: contract; tort; criminal; equity and trusts; EU; property and public. If studied full time it takes one year to complete and the workload is rigorous.
Applications for the full-time GDL are made through the Central Applications Board . Part-time applicants should apply directly to the institution.
Many people who work in the law sector have come from other careers and use their transferable skills such as good communication, analytical thinking and commercial awareness to become successful solicitors and barristers.
