FAQs: What can I do if I am being bullied at work?

If you are suffering from harassment, keep a record of events. This will help recall details when you make a formal complaint or report. Find out if anyone else at work is suffering from bullying or whether anyone has witnessed how you’re being treated.

Make the person aware by email or by approaching them regarding their behaviour. If the bullying continues at least they cannot claim to have been unaware as and when action is taken against them. Ultimately, you will have to choose to make a formal complaint or not.

The company you work for will have a policy relating to workplace bullying that you can follow. There is a ‘three-step’ procedure which includes a written statement, a hearing and the right to appeal − this is often easier with the help of a union representative.

Everyone has the right to equal opportunities in the workplace.
