Whether you are allowed to work in the UK depends on the type of visa and immigration entry tier that you have been given by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) - Working in the UK . If you are a student from the European Economic Area (EEA) or a Swiss national, you can work in the UK without any restrictions.
If you have a ‘prohibited’ stamp on your visa, you cannot work in the UK. If you have a ‘restricted’ stamp, you can work subject to certain restrictions such as: studying on a full-time course of more than six months; working a maximum of 20 hours per week in term time; and paying tax and National Insurance.
