FAQs: How do I negotiate a pay rise?

Negotiating a pay rise is never going to be an easy issue to bring up. Prepare your case by researching whether your request is reasonable – do this by finding out the average salary. Search types of jobs to find out more information on salaries in your sector and more specifically your role.

An appropriate time to discuss pay is at your appraisal. This is your opportunity to explain how you are not only meeting but exceeding your objectives. Use examples to show how you have saved the company considerable time or money, or helped to improve results. Outline where you see your career going and what you will be doing to earn the higher salary you are requesting.
