Public employment services

Pole Emploi is the French national employment agency (the French equivalent of UK jobcentres) and European Union (EU) nationals may use its services on the same basis as French nationals. Job vacancies are advertisd on the website and may be searched by region, type of job, level of experience, etc. See the website for details of offices throughout the country.

Visit the EURES - European Job Mobility Portal website for contact details of euro-advisers. EURES advisers are trained specialists who provide information and guidance to job seekers interested in working in a range of countries, including France.

Higher education careers support

Contact individual institutions directly to check what careers service support they offer. University websites often have a careers section detailing the help on offer.

Help in an emergency

Emergency telephone numbers are:

  • 112 - General emergencies
  • 15 - Medical emergencies/ambulance
  • 17 - Police
  • 18 - Fire brigade

SOS help is an English language telephone listening service (based in Paris), which has trained operators who will listen sympathetically to those in distress or feeling depressed.
