Ghana: Work experience

Work placements and exchange programmes

  • AIESEC (Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales)  is a student-run organisation that offers students work placements and exchange schemes in over 100 different countries, including Ghana. The aim is to help people gain leadership skills and professional experience.
  • Projects Abroad  offers placements including journalism, teaching, medicine, care, community, veterinary medicine, sports and human rights.
  • i-to-i  specialises in providing 'meaningful travel experiences'. There are many opportunities listed, from short course TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) training to health work experience in a medical centre.

Teaching schemes

  • InterExchange  offers teaching programmes in Ghana that vary in length from 1 to 12 months. A fee must be paid for these placements and costs start at £742 for one month which includes meals and accommodation with a host family. Placements are available with a variety of age ranges.
  • NICS (Network of International Christian Schools)  has establishments in Ghana and employs people who have experience of working in schools. They are also willing to provide some training for individuals. Salary depends on the type of school and location. The NICS international schools pay a salary which covers living expenses (apartment, utilities, clothing, food, etc.).

Volunteering

  • Volunteer Corps Organisation  is a Ghanaian NGO that arranges placements with a variety of projects.
  • BUNAC  has volunteer programmes in Ghana. Placements usually last two to six months and are in community-based projects.
  • Original Volunteers  has various projects in Ghana, including working with orphans, repairing schools and teaching and coaching outdoor sports.
