Big Beyond design and manage skills-based volunteer placements for adventurous individuals willing to live and work in rural Africa. Our placements are perfect for both undergrads or graduates looking to build relevant work experience that really stands out on their CV. Through working across a range of high-impact community projects it's also the chance to tell a true and fascinating story about your role in conservation and development for some amazing yet disadvantaged parts of the world.

We identify the individual skills, knowledge, personality and passions of each volunteer and assign specific tasks. You can apply to develop your experience in a particular field such as marketing, events, business or project management, or alternatively concentrate in a particular project category such as conservation, education, culture, health or enterprise.

We know there can be a lot more to volunteering abroad than teaching English to kids, counting lions or building schools and it's our passion to carefully match our volunteers with local projects where relevant knowledge, energy and talents are really needed. Our philosophy is all about building capacity - of our volunteers and the local people - and at the root of each Big Beyond placement is a varied and fulfilling learning experience ensuring students and graduates achieve both career and personal development goals - with a reference to back it up at the end.

Each site is located next to a beautiful national park and you'll work hand-in-hand with the friendly local communities to help integrate conservation and socio-economic development objectives. You can apply to volunteer at one site or across a range - positions are currently open in Uganda and Malawi (we'll be launching programmes in Ethiopia later this year).

Volunteers can stay with us from 2 weeks to 12 months, positions available throughout the year. All placements are full time, Monday to Friday, with weekends off to travel or relax.

During your stay, you'll live in the Big Beyond house with other volunteers and you'll be happily integrated into the local community. Our extensive orientation programme helps you adapt well to your new home. We make sure you're properly supported from the moment you sign up to the team and you'll receive on-going training and support from the dedicated Big Beyond managers who live on site with you. We'll feed you three lovely meals a day, organise all your local transport, make sure your placement goes smoothly, and you'll have a huge amount of local knowledge on tap for when you feel like exploring further afield.
