We are looking for an MS SQL Server DBA role with responsibility for building, and providing operational, database services to the organisation.

We are looking for a highly competent and motivated individual in this role. Some of the primary responsibilities include:

  • Owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests.
  • Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs.
  • Reviewing service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
  • Responding to database related alerts and escalations and providing strategic solutions to recurring problems.
  • Performance tuning to ensure optimum performance.

Aside from the operational aspect of the role you will be supporting project delivery, from design input through to build, ready for handover into production.

This MS SQL Server DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with our customers to keep them updated with the status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.

This role requires good communication skills as you will be liaising with a wide and varied audience.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server, from 7 to 2008.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimisation, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery options for MSSQL Server.
  • Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts.
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and disk configurations.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience of working in a large financial organisation.
  • Knowledge of ITIL.
  • Knowledge of Hibernate.
