“We could not find a volunteer organisation that was ethical, provided training or that we could afford so we created our own.”

SL Volunteers is an affordable and responsible organisation that is led by students and graduates, in Sri Lanka. Opportunities include TEFL teaching, clinical psychology placement, special needs, children’s homes & sports coaching. Since 2010, over 200 students, graduates and professionals from around the world have volunteered with us and helped us to create sustainable projects in Sri Lanka.

What we do?
All volunteers commit to a minimum of 4 projects during their placement:

• Youth English Teaching: 18-25 years old
• Clinical Psychology Project: assisting Psychologists & Psychiatrists at Psychiatric Hospitals
• Sports Coaching: Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Swimming & Netball
• Working with people with Special Needs.
• Working at Children’s Homes: Running extra-curricular classes
• Teaching at Deaf Schools

Are you Eligible?
We recruit students, graduates and people who have been in employment who show a genuine enthusiasm for volunteering.

Expenses Paid Role
Volunteers that can commit over 8 weeks in Sri Lanka and assist the London team with running of SL Volunteers can apply for an Assistant Coordinator role. This means that their expenses in Sri Lanka are covered.

What is included?

• Accommodation: Shared room at a family homestay with 6-12 other volunteers
• Breakfast & Dinner
• Airport Pick-Up
• Jungle Weekend – staying in huts in the jungle – trekking, white water rafting, high ropes.
• Training – In-country workshops led by local Charity & NGO workers including: TEFL training, safeguarding vulnerable children & adults, cultural understanding.
• Round the clock support from our Sri Lankan team

Flights - £450-£550
Insurance - £30-£50
Visa - £38
