Job description

The role of Junior Software Engineer is ideally suited to recent graduates who hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent and are early in their career as a software engineer. You will have a passion for software development, backed by an array of demonstrable projects that you have completed at university, in your spare time and possible in your early career. You must be a fast learner and willing to take on challenges that will stretch your knowledge and skills to the limit.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain services with focus on efficiency, scalability and stability;
• Code using primarily Java;
• Interface with other teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa;
• Integrate with content providers;
• Maintain and improve overall quality of our products.

Person requirements

Must haves:

• An understanding of software engineering best practices, object oriented design, and design patterns such as MVC;
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to thrive in a cross-functional team on business critical projects;
• A passion for software development and a commitment to delivering a great user experience;
• An insatiable appetite for learning new skills and constantly improving existing ones;
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to haves:

• Experience with asynchronous I/O programming; common web services protocols (HTTP, SOAP, REST); XML, XSLT and XPath;
• Experience with automated testing methodologies and frameworks, including JUnit;
• Knowledge of SQL;
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, SES, SQS, RDS, SDB, ElastiCache, DynamoDB).
