Over 2 years you will complete 4 x 6 month placements, one of which could be a secondment to a client's in-house legal team.
A client secondment aims to give you experience of being on a client site as well as providing a challenging and exciting variety of legal work. The tasks that you will undertake are engaging, interesting and often with familiar topics, brands and products with which you can easily identify.
We have 10 offices in the UK: Basingstoke, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Nottingham, Thames Valley & Southampton. We do not offer training contracts or placements in London or Basingstoke.
We are a full service major UK law firm offering you an experience in a variety of areas including commercial contracts, banking & finance, corporate, litigation & disputes and real estate to name a few.
In addition to these we have many other practice areas which may offer seats on a slightly less regular basis and may include intellectual property, EU & competition, pensions, insurance, regulatory & compliance, planning and construction & engineering.
We encourage regular involvement in sporting, CR, networking and social events, so we will cover your membership costs for local young lawyer groups. We also place great importance on health and wellbeing, so every team in every office receives a free fruit delivery every week.
We offer 23 days’ flexible holiday, pension, life assurance, private medical insurance, dental plan, and corporate discounts on conveyancing and legal advice.
Plus, Happy Birthday! Have a free day off for your birthday and a birthday gift from us!
You’ll be open-minded, forward-thinking, creative and innovative, and be trained in a non-hierarchal, open plan environment.
As a trainee, you will value a social life outside the office. Work-wise, you will care about the quality of service you give to clients, and will want to make a real and direct contribution to the firm’s success.
You should be in at least your penultimate year of a law degree, or at least final year of a non-law degree to apply. You will be expected to complete the GDL and / or LPC prior to commencing your Training Contract with Shoosmiths, therefore you must allow enough time to account for these years of study after graduation.
More information can be found on our website via the Apply button where you can read trainee profiles and watch videos about the training experience, or follow us on twitter
We are happy to offer you financial assistance in relation to your GDL and/or LPC up to a maximum of £26,000. We will also provide a living allowance whilst you are studying.
You must be in at least your penultimate year of a law degree, or final year of a non-law degree to apply.
