Job description

Reporting to the Head of Asset Management, you will be required to support the Asset Management Department on all matters relating to sustainability, energy efficiency and the environment across our Housing stock.

Your main duties will include:

  • Supporting the Head of Asset Management and Department Managers to develop a Sustainability Strategy and SMART action plan.
  • Acting as the key contact for all sustainability issues, developing partnerships with other Registered Social Landlords, contract organisations, agencies and communities to maximise benefits for our customers.
  • Developing and providing training, technical advice and support for staff and customers on sustainability, energy, renewable energy, environmental and waste management issues.
  • Maximising grant income and other funding to support projects that positively impact the environment and promote sustainability.

  1. Advise the Asset Management team on all matters relating to sustainability, energy efficiency and the environment and its impact on our housing stock.
  2. Develop and implement a Corporate Sustainability Policy incorporating environmental and energy efficiency considerations and awareness.
  3. Provide training, technical advice and support to tenants, staff and community organisations to ensure that opportunities to develop sustainable initiatives are maximised.
  4. Research materials, systems for specifications and source and leverage external funding for sustainable energy and environmental projects.

Main roles & responsibilities

  1. As the sole sustainability expert, support the Head of Asset Management and Department Managers to develop a Sustainability Strategy and SMART action plan.
  2. Act as the key contact for all sustainability issues, developing partnerships with other RSL’s, contract organisations, agencies and communities to maximise benefits for our customers.
  3. Develop and provide training, and technical advice and support for staff and customers on sustainability, energy, renewable energy, environmental and waste management issues.
  4. Maximise grant income and other funding to support projects that positively impact the environment and promote sustainability.
  5. Maximise the opportunities to fit and retro-fit environmental management solutions.
  6. Research and advise Asset Management on sustainability best practice and innovations and there possible applications within Four Housing. Write and present reports in support of recommendations.
  7. Provide advice on sustainability aspects in procurement activities ensuring that keys suppliers and contractors have measurable targets and maximise performance in this area.
  8. Co-ordinate the Environmental Management System for the Group. Act as the departmental point of contact for ISO14001 and for all energy, environment and sustainability issues and associated funding.
  9. Co-ordinate the collection and interpretation of data to monitor environmental performance, including the identification of key indicators; e.g. carbon emissions, assessment and Renewable Energy data collation (F.I.T. etc.). In addition, identify and target households in or at risk of fuel poverty.

  5. Maximise the use of ICT facilities and contribute to their development where appropriate.

Person requirements

Qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum of HNC level or equivalent in a technical discipline with environmental science or sustainability development specialism
  • Registered BREEAM Assessor Energy Assessment or Code of Sustainable Homes Qualification
  • Qualification in an environmental related field

Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of sustainability issues including energy efficiency and environmental issues
  • Experience of an environmental management system and accreditations, i.e. ISO 14001.
  • Skills and experience in analysing statistical data to support and inform new developments and initiatives including experience of systems to support this.
  • Ability to translate and convey complex information into a format suitable for a range of users
  • Experience of leveraging grant funding i.e. CERT and CESF
  • Experience of promoting education and awareness of sustainability issues
  • Experience of evaluating costs and benefits of more sustainable choices or practices
  • Proven information management, ICT and organisational skills, including work on report writing, e-mail, databases etc. (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project)
  • Experience of developing a sustainability plan
  • Experience of supporting the development of environmental strategies

Special Knowledge

  • Up to date knowledge of Building Regulations and Code for Sustainable Homes as they impact sustainability
