Latest news: 1,000 jobs in Wales

An employment park in Wales is set to create 1,000 jobs with a massive £13.5million being ploughed into the project by the government. 09/11/2011

The site is well positioned to offer employment to people from Gwendraeth and Amman Valleys along with Carmarthen and Llanelli.

Eight plots are currently planned for the site with some having the potential to be divided up in the future to create space for 100 companies.

‘Despite difficult economic times it is vital that we develop the sites to accommodate future business investment and expansion. The earmarking of these funds for infrastructure works is great news and it will be a significant boost for the county,’ said councillor Clive Scourfield, executive board member for regeneration.

It is believed that the site will incorporate a mixture of office and industrial development with the money being spent on a new access road from the A48, electricity, gas, water, drainage, lighting, landscape and an internal road among other expenditures.

The people in charge of promoting the regeneration of the employment park are hoping it will attract green businesses that find and sell their goods and services locally.

Attracting this type of business in one designated area should reduce the sites carbon footprint, produce less waste and see more rubbish recycled.

‘There's a need for secured land in Carmarthenshire for employment use and this site is probably the best location in the county,’ said Stuart Walters, the council’s physical regeneration manager.
