UK graduates may be set for a jobs boost, after Ryanair looks to increase their involvement in Scottish airports. 07/12/2012
The budget airline is gearing up for a summer 2013 expansion, with six new routes from Edinburgh and two new routes from Glasgow in the pipeline.
Michael O'Leary, Ryanair chief executive, claimed that around 400 new jobs will be created as a result of the estimated 400,000 extra passengers that will use the airports due to the new flights.
The roles the company expect to fill will most likely include engineers, pilots, cabin crew and handling staff.
New flights from Edinburgh will go to Beziers in France, Bologna and Cagliari in Italy, Corfu in Greece, Katowice in Poland and Santander in Spain, while new routes from Prestwick in Glasgow will be to Rzeszow and Warsaw in Poland.
Glasgow Prestwick CEO, Iain Cochrane, said, 'The decision to increase Prestwick operations for next summer, along with new routes to Rzeszow and Warsaw is great news both for the airport and the region.'
The news comes after O'Leary's statement in October, when he estimated his company would create 1,000 new roles at airports in Liverpool, Manchester and the East Midlands.
