BCS The Chartered Institute for IT is to give IT students and graduates another chance to apply for the mock recruitment event 08/03/2013

The West Yorkshire Branch of BCS, which organises the event, has extended the closing date to 29 April 2013 where they will help successful applicants with their interview skills.

The Graduate 2013 is made up of three stages:

  • Stage One - The application - closing date 29 April 2013
  • Stage Two - The assessment centre - 3 June 2013
  • Stage Three - The results and awards ceremony - 3 June 2013

Chris Cahill, chair of BCS West Yorkshire Branch, said, 'The Graduate is a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to successfully gain employment, particularly in the current economic climate where there is a great deal of competition for jobs.

'It is an important next step for students and we've received feedback from employers which suggests that although students have qualifications, they may not have the relevant experience, soft skills or people skills to secure a job at interview.'

Successful applicants to the event will have the opportunity to learn how a real recruitment process might work and will go through an assessment centre style day.

A number of organisations are sponsoring the event including: Yorkshire Water; Graduates Yorkshire; Capgemini; 4it Recruitment; and Gradcore.

Donald Whyte was the winner of The Graduate 2012, receiving £500 in Amazon vouchers and a Personal Impact training course.
