Several major retailers have announced that they will create thousands of temporary part-time roles in the run up to Christmas. 03/10/2012
With only 86 days to go until Christmas, a part-time job is a great way to boost your transferable skills and improve your CV.
Argos is set to offer 12,000 roles which will last for around three months across their 740 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Permanent positions could then be offered on completion of the Christmas contract.
The supermarket giant Sainsbury's will create 15,000 jobs and it is estimated that around 2,000 of these roles will be made permanent.
'Job creation is one of the most important contributions we make to the communities in which we serve, so this year we're happy to announce that we have created 15,000 seasonal jobs. Christmas is the busiest time of year in our stores, so the work is fast-paced, varied and rewarding,' said Gwyn Burr, customer service and colleague director at Sainsbury's.
The budget retailer Poundland also announced that it will create more than 2,000 seasonal jobs.
'We need on average five or six extra colleagues in each store to help us cope with the busiest time of the year. The response so far has been fantastic; we're looking for applicants with enthusiasm and determination, and people who are hard working to help deliver amazing value and service to our customers,' said Jim McCarthy, CEO at Poundland.
Added to this is the creation of 5,000 festive roles at fashion and homeware retailer Matalan and 10,000 Christmas jobs in warehouses across the UK for Amazon.
