Latest news : Engineering investment in Durham

A County Durham engineering firm has won a £50million contract to supply automotive parts to Russia, leading to planned expansion in its workforce. 09/06/2011

Peterlee-based GT Group will supply parts for new diesel engines to Russian manufacturer GAZ and plans to employ an extra 200 staff, some of who will be in graduate positions.

‘This prestigious contract with Russia’s leading manufacturer will further cement GT Group’s rapid growth and its reputation as one of the principle suppliers of engine brakes and exhaust gas control systems for the heavy-duty diesel engine market,’ said Geoff Turnbull, GT Group’s chairman.

‘Our primary business objective is to meet the demands of vehicle manufacturers through the quality of our products and our extensive research and development capabilities.

‘We continually strive to improve the efficiency and performance of our products to ensure they deliver the solutions required by the latest and future generation of engines,’ he added.

The company plans to stagger the growth over a period of three years, with roles in research, design, manufacturing and engineering. The new engines will be produced at GAZ’s new plant 150 miles from Moscow.

GT Group has worked with GAZ, Russia’s largest automotive manufacturer, for the last four years.
