JCB is set to create 350 jobs in the UK after plans for a £31million engine development project were revealed. 08/12/2011
The construction equipment manufacturer will recruit 50 advanced engineering roles at its plant in Derbyshire immediately, with a further 300 jobs to come once the engine goes into production.
Positions will be available for engine design and development, engine electronics and software engineering, technicians, application engineers and buyers.
'The announcement that we now intend to invest £31million developing our next generation engine is an important step in building on the success we have enjoyed so far and it will take the efficiency, productivity and environmental performance of our engines to new levels,' said JCB chief executive Alan Blake.
'The new JCB engine will give our products a huge competitive edge across global markets which we anticipate will lead to substantially increased sales between 2016 and 2021.
'That rise in demand will result in the creation of an additional 300 positions at our UK factories in addition to almost 50 engineering roles we are recruiting for immediately,' he added.
JCB is able to go ahead with plans after the company was awarded £4.5million in funding towards the project by the government's Regional Growth Fund. The programme is expected to pump £1.4billion into English business between 2011 and 2014, aimed particularly at areas hit by public sector job cuts.
