More than 1,000 engineering roles are set to be created at 10 companies in Coventry and Warwickshire 02/05/2013

The companies are to receive £4.8 million from a national funding initiative which will create more than 1,000 jobs and lead to nearly £42 million being invested in the sub-region.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Board has approved the applications for ten projects to receive grants from round two of the Government’s Growing Places (GPR2) funding scheme.

This could be positive news for engineering graduates entering a competitive job market in the next few years.

Sir Peter Rigby, chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), said that the funding will 'boost jobs', and the 'projects will be started as soon as possible'.

'As well as creating over 1,000 jobs, the Growing Places (GPR2) funding scheme will safeguard a further 300 jobs in Coventry and Warwickshire. This funding will kick-start a number of initiatives and create economic growth sooner rather than later,' he added.

Unipart Manufacturing Group managing director Carol Burke said the GPR2 funding would also create 90 new jobs at the Unipart Eberspächer site (UEES) in Coventry.

'Receiving this additional funding will mean we can accelerate our plans much more quickly and invest in technology and the skills of people from Coventry and Warwickshire to add to the area’s manufacturing reputation.'

Richmond Design and Marketing Limited, Envisage Group Limited and SMT Developments Limited in Warwick are among some of the companies that will benefit from the funding.
