Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games organisers have begun the search for 15,000 voluntary 'Games Makers' 15/01/2013

Roles include welcoming competitors to the games and helping out in the athletes' village and sports arenas.

Organisers also require skilled volunteers, including drivers, medical staff and those with expertise in sport.

No previous volunteering experience is necessary but applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and be over 16 years old.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, said, 'We have been delighted by the initial response to our call for volunteers for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

'I am happy to say that the volunteering spirit is definitely alive and well and we have had more than 10,000 people apply within the first 12 hours.

'But don't worry if you have still to apply, the window is open until 28 February and all applications will be considered then.'

Sport minister Shona Robison said, 'Volunteers will be the life-blood of the games, helping to create the atmosphere, energy and enthusiasm that drives success.'

A total of 25,000 applicants will be interviewed for the positions from April 2013, with volunteers needing to be available from 23 July to 3 August 2014.
