Nearly 450 graduate jobs will be advertised by the supermarket over the next 12 months, increasing intake by 30%. 01/08/2011
Tesco, who claim to be the largest employer in the private sector, will add the 450 graduate recruits to their 2,500 stores across the UK over the next year.
The supermarket chain has 17 graduate job schemes available, offering something to students from all disciplines. There are store and distribution programmes alongside a range of office programmes, which typically include: finance, buying, merchandising and customer analysis.
‘It’s a challenging time for graduates but, as other firms cut back on hiring, we remain committed to offering opportunities to talented young people. Our current chief executive was a Tesco graduate trainee. We aim to find the Philip Clarkes of tomorrow and provide them with the skills and training they need for a long and successful career,’ said personnel director, Judith Nelson.
Tesco has 450,000 members of staff worldwide, so any graduates with business degrees or international relations, might benefit from the company’s global reaching structure.
The news is a welcome relief for many graduates, as the company has once again outlined plans to boost the jobs market. A great example of the commitment needed if the market is to redevelop and grow.
Tesco accepted 240 applicants on to graduate schemes in 2010/11 and this figure was up from 191 in the previous period.
