Latest news: Help for future lawyers

The College of Law has launched a new website providing free resources to anyone thinking about or starting a career in law. 18/10/2011

The Future Lawyers Network has careers and employability resources to help prospective lawyers take their first steps in the profession. It also features regular articles, blogs and analysis of topical legal news stories and developments in legal education and allows members to join in the debate by posting comments.

‘Our unique legal employability guide StEP will help members maximise their career prospects and achieve the best possible start to their legal careers by providing a range of tools and tips,’ said Rachel Harris, director of employability at the College.

‘The 10-step programme offers written advice and online workshops as well as practical activities and useful weblinks. Topics covered include understanding the legal market, researching legal recruiters, completing application forms and preparing for interviews,’ she added.

There is information on different areas of the law - what they cover, what they are like in practice plus real-life case studies of College tutors, careers consultants and pro bono staff giving details of their legal careers and practice areas.

Once students accept a place at The College of Law they can also access its online vacancy database, which contains details of thousands of legal vacancies every year.

You don’t have to be a student at the College, you just need to register free of charge at The Future Lawyers Network.
