A major funding opportunity for postgraduate students based in Scotland is being offered by Heriot-Watt University 20/02/2013

The university has been awarded an additional 70 funded, taught postgraduate places by The Scottish Funding Council (SFC)  for the academic year 2013/14.

This is one of the largest allocations of funded places of any Scottish university, with selected students having their fees covered in full.

The following disciplines have been identified by the Scottish government as key economic areas:

  • advanced mechanical engineering;
  • brewing and distilling;
  • civil engineering and construction management;
  • marine renewable energy/renewable energy development;
  • oil and gas technology;
  • photonic and optoelectronic devices;
  • quantitative financial engineering/quantitative finance and mathematics;
  • reservoir evaluation and management/petroleum geoscience;
  • smart grid and demand management.

Funding comprises of a bursary which equals the standard tuition fee for that subject.

Heriot-Watt University annually distributes over £6million in the form of fee and maintenance bursaries, plus scholarships to around 500 students from UK and international backgrounds.
