Latest news: Jobs at Sainsbury's

The supermarket retailer is set to recruit 15,000 new members of staff to cater for the busy Christmas period. 09/09/2011

Seasonal workers will carry out a number of roles including: stacking shelves, customer service, assisting the online delivery team and working on the check-outs. Many of Sainsbury’s seasonal workers often go on to begin full time careers afterwards.

‘We know from experience that many of our seasonal colleagues use the opportunity as a springboard to a career at Sainsbury's. Last year 2,100 of our seasonal colleagues gained permanent roles at Sainsbury's and we hope that many of the colleagues from this year's intake will benefit in a similar way,’ said Helen Webb, Sainsbury’s retail human resources director.

Sainsbury’s employs around 150,000 full- and part-time staff across the UK, but increases its numbers around the festive and New Year period to deal with the influx of customers. Sainsbury’s has 930 stores nationwide and deals with 22 million customer transactions each week.

‘We are looking for passionate, motivated individuals who love working as part of a team. Retail is a fantastic industry to work in and there really is no better time to be in store than at Christmas. Last year we had over 24 million customer transactions in Christmas week alone, so our seasonal colleagues are absolutely vital in ensuring that we provide our customers with great customer service right across the store,’ said Helen.
