Entrepreneurs are being urged to enter the race to find the country's best university student and graduate businesses, and compete for a £50,000 prize. 11/01/2013

The awards, now in their second year, are part of Lloyds Banking Group's commitment to start ups and growth firms and aims to support the estimated 55,000 student businesses across Britain, that are striving to make their mark.

Current students or recent university graduates (within the past five years) across England, Scotland or Wales who have run a business for at least one year and are over the age of 18 are eligible to apply.

All entrants will be considered for two titles - Best Start Up, which will be awarded to a business in its early stages, and Best Enterprise which will be awarded to the business judged to show real potential to grow over the next five years and become a recognised SME within its respective sector.

Winners of the initial heats will be awarded cash prizes of £1,000 for Best Start Up and £5,000 for Best Enterprise and will be automatically entered for the national final.

The overall winner of Best Start up will be awarded a cash prize of £10,000 and the winner of Best Enterprise will be awarded a cash prize of £50,000.

Alongside the money, all 16 regional and national winners will receive a two-year mentoring programme, involving senior executives from Lloyds Banking Group. This is designed to provide coaching and support on critical business issues such as planning and finance. Each of the winners will also receive free legal advice with an independent specialist law firm.

David Oldfield, managing director, SME and mid market banking for Lloyds Banking Group said, 'We want to assist students and graduates who have the focus and determination to succeed as their businesses begin to grow and these awards celebrate the great entrepreneurial spirit among the student and graduate community.'

Nominations for the awards close on 31 January and anyone wanting to enter can apply online by visiting Lloyds TSB - Enterprise Awards.
