A technical and creative institute is set to be created at London's 'silicon roundabout', prime minister David Cameron and Mayor of London Boris Johnson have announced. 12/12/2012

Costing £50million, the plans are set to help 1,000 young people a year into skilled employment, house 200 start-up companies annually and provide a mentoring network for entrepreneurs.

The Greater London Authority will be in charge of the project, which has been backed by companies such as KPMG, IBM and Microsoft.

'I am absolutely convinced that the next Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, or Mark Zuckerberg, will hail not from Silicon Valley but from this small corner of London,' said Boris Johnson.

Prime minister, David Cameron, stated, 'The UK is in a global race and I am determined that we as a government continue doing everything we can to equip the UK to compete and thrive in that race.

'That's why we're investing in creating the largest civic space in Europe - a place for start-up companies and the local community to come together and become the next generation of entrepreneurs.'
