Latest news: National Apprenticeship Week starts

The fifth annual National Apprenticeship Week begins with more than 500 activities and events planned across the UK. 06/02/2012

The event is coordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and aims to make students aware of the positive impact apprenticeships can have on their careers and also the success of businesses.

Activities arranged by employers, apprentices, colleges and business support organisations will run throughout the week. Highlights include a breakfast networking event hosted by Channel 4 in London and Generation Digital, a programme aimed at helping graduates into digital media apprenticeships.

‘Apprenticeships provide businesses with a significant return on investment by increasing productivity and introducing fresh new talent and innovation. They are also a sound stepping stone for individuals to build successful careers,’ said Simon Waugh, NAS chief executive.

‘We are delighted that so many organisations are supporting the National Apprenticeship Week by organising events to showcase these benefits. There are some fantastic activities on offer, which I am certain will inspire more companies and individuals to reap the benefits of apprenticeships for themselves,’ he added.

The week-long initiative has also received the backing of the government, with minister John Hayes calling it a time to ‘celebrate apprentices’ achievements’.

‘Thanks to record investment, combined with tough measures to drive up standards, the government has created the biggest and best apprenticeships programme n our country’s history,’ he added.
