Latest news: National Careers Week

Careers professionals, teachers, students, parents and employers will come together for National Careers Week (NCW) 2012. 02/03/2012

Running from March 5 - 9 NCW is about making contact, sharing best practice and helping future talent make better career choices that are relevant to the changing labour market.

National Careers Week showcases what people all over the country are doing to support, console, inspire and challenge anyone who has a stake in career thinking and career action,’ says Professor Rachel Mulvey, chair in career guidance at the University of East London.

NCW will support and be supported by more than 7,000 careers professionals and key influencers in more than 3,500 secondary schools and FE colleges in the UK. Those signed up will run local careers fairs and employer sessions as well as attend national events.

One such event is the National Career Guidance show at Wembley Stadium on 7 and 8 March. The free event is for careers professionals to network, learn and meet like-minded colleagues and gain valuable insights at expert seminars. It is hosted by the Institute of Career Guidance (ICG)  who are co-founders of National Careers Week with Careersbox.

A new careers initiative from the Careersinfo Group will also be launched on the 6 March at the University of Easy London Docklands Campus. CareersBuzz is a mobile learning centre, staffed by qualified careers professionals.

‘Amidst the harsh reality of getting through a period of uncertainty, even of unemployment, we can see the ingenuity and commitment of professionals working in careers education and guidance locally, regionally, nationally and online. At last, something to celebrate,’ she added.

Central to the programme this year is the NCW Twitter feed (@CareersWeek) where you can keep up-to-date with the latest news and developments.
