The energy firm ScottishPower has announced plans to recruit for 2,500 engineering jobs 18/04/2013

This is over and above the 1,500 new roles announced last year, taking the total number of jobs set to be created over the following decade to 4,000.

The initial phase of the recruitment drive will begin in the next five years as ScottishPower expects to recruit the first 1,500 craftspeople, engineers and support staff from the local communities that it serves.

A large proportion of this recruitment will be apprentices and graduates, who will be supported by an extensive training infrastructure developed by ScottishPower in association with local education institutions and training bodies.

Cabinet secretary for finance, employment and sustainable growth, John Swinney said he was 'delighted that ScottishPower is expanding its Scottish operations and creating 4,000 new jobs in the next ten years'.

'We are working with the industry to continue to strengthen Scotland’s position as a global leader in energy and this new investment marks further growth in this important section of our economy,' continued Mr. Swinney.

The company also announced that Glasgow City Council has approved its planning application for a new 14-storey office building in the city centre of Glasgow, which will become the energy firms new UK headquarters.
