Sharp Laboratories of Europe is offering students and graduates a chance to win a two-month paid summer internship 17/04/2013

The company is looking for ideas on how to solve an everyday problem. It could be a device for helping people climb out of bed in the morning or cutting people's electricity usage.

Entrants must scribble and sketch their idea in a notebook, take a photo of it and share it via Twitter using the hashtag #GetItDownOnPaper .

Paul Molyneux, chief executive officer of Sharp Europe, says, 'We're really passionate about nurturing the next generation of inventors. The winner has a fantastic opportunity to work at our research laboratories in Oxford, where we are developing future technologies that we hope will aid society.'

Director at Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Ian Thompson, says, 'What we are looking for is someone full of enthusiasm, originality and genuine curiosity.

'This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about science to work on cutting-edge technologies and a project that could eventually be put into production.'

Based in Oxford, the organisation is the European research and development arm for the Japanese electronic giant Sharp. It researches and provides the technology that goes into mobile phones, smart cards, personal computers and displays in cars.

The internship is scheduled to begin on 1 July 2013 and end on 30 August 2013, with this being the first time Sharp has offered a placement opportunity.

Only students and graduates in Europe can enter the competition, with the winner to be announced on 10 June 2013.
