Leading construction firm Skanska has announced plans to expand its operations in the UK and Poland. 14/12/2010
The building company is expected to create graduate jobs in London and the south east as part of plans to expand construction in residential developments, commercial property developments and its infrastructure.
The developments come as Skanska released its new business plan taking the company up until 2015.
Skanska will begin its extended UK operations in 2011, with a focus on developments in London and nearby areas within commuting distance. The company decided to invest after riding out the financial crisis and the collapse of the housing market, stating that an ‘excellent opportunity’ for entry as a residential developer had been created.
The development comes despite the gloom surrounding the construction sector, with reports suggesting that the industry will take longer to recover from the recession than others.
‘This is a very exciting time for Skanska, we have a wealth of experience and expertise in this sector through our Nordic operations. Drawing upon this will place us in an excellent position for developing our UK business and delivering sustainable homes in the UK,’ said Magnus Andersson, President of Skanska Residential Development UK.
Skanska’s graduate trainee programme is now closed for 2010/11, but the company has committed to maintaining the scheme for the 2011/12 cohort.
